I went back and dug through my notes from about 10 to 13 years ago, when I first started writing what would become BunnyWine and The Tide Is High (Rude Boy USA). I’ve always begun new stories with a lot of research and handwritten notes, but I hadn’t opened this composition notebook in years. It’s a little flattened now from being wedged between so many others, and it looks like the purple ink (why did I take notes in purple?) is starting to bleed, but it’s all I have left from that time.
I used to have a blue composition notebook too, the one with my earliest ideas for Rude Boy USA, but it’s disappeared somewhere along the way. I still hope it turns up one day.
I wanted to share a bit about my writing process. I did the same thing for Scions of Legacy, just digitally this time. Maybe after all the books are out, I’ll share those notes too. Not everything in these pages made it into the final stories. Most of it was just me figuring out the characters.
